Part 1 : DIP Switch and LEDs 1.1 - Identify DIP Switch and Three LEDs and required resistors from the lab kit. 1.2- Place the DIP switch on the breadboard as shown in FIGURE 1. Be careful not to bend or apply pressure on the pins. It is very easy to break them. 1.3-Similar to a regular switch, DIP switch has OPEN and CLOSE positions. On your DIP switch identify the OPEN and CLOSE position. Make all the switches to OPEN position. 1.4 - A digital circuit is usually consists of INPUT, Logic Circuit, OUTPUT (or DISPLAY). DIP Switches can be used to simulate logic inputs of 0 or 1 based on position of the switch. DISPLAY section uses LEDs to show basedF ise LEDs to show FIGURE 1 +5 V the output logic, based on glowing light. Build the circuit shown in FIGURE 2. Pay attention to the polarity of LED. (Anode usually has a longer leg.)Please see FIGURE 3 as an example. DIP Switch SW1 330 In this circuit inputs A,B and C will represent Logic ONE(1) ifthe SW1 and SW4 and SW8 are open. They will represent logic Zero(0) ifsw1,sw4 and SW8 are closed, respectively. LED 330 LED2 330 LED FIGURE 2 DISPLAY (ACTIVE HGH) INPUTS Question 1: What is the purpose of 1KS2 resistor? Question 2: What is the purpose of resistors? 1.9 -Change the position of SW1 and measure the voltage at point A( between A and GND) and see the status of LED1. Write down the result in T1, Continue with SW4 and SW8 1.10 Turn off the power supply, turn all switches to OPEN position and answer questions 1to 4 in Result Sheet. 1.11 Modify the circuit as shown in FIGURE 4. Pay attention to the direction of LEDs +5 V +5 V DIP Switclh 330 LED 330 LED2 330 LED INPUTS FIGURE 4 (ACTIVE LOW) Question 7: what is the major difference noticed between first and second DISPLAY method? Question 9: Is there any difference between method one and two? Which one do you prefer?
