What Is COB Continuous LED Tape?
COB stands for Chip on Board, meaning the LED diodes are built directly into the Printed circuit board. The main advantage of this technology is that there is no visible spotting, even when used in more shallow LED profiles and spaces, this ensures the finished installation will present a seamless uninterrupted finish.
COB technology also generates less heat, which in turn makes it more efficient. These tapes typically run at around 100 Lumens per watt and the reduced heat level makes the tape last longer and maintain a high-level performance over a longer period of time.

What is the difference between LED and COB LED?
The main difference between these two technologies a side from the efficiency is the way in which the LEDs are mounted to the tape.
COB LEDs are mounted directly into the circuit board with a strip over the top acting as a diffuser enabling a seamless finish when illuminated.
Being directly mounted to the circuit board means there is room for more LEDs to be mounted. Our COB LED tapes typically achieve 544 LEDs per metre.
Compare this to current traditional LED Tape and the use of SMD (Surface Mounted Diode) Technology, where the LED chips are mounted and secured on top of the circuit board and typically the maximum number of LEDs per metre is around 240.
The SMD version is much more likely to cause spotting and dark spots due to the spacing of the chips on the LED Tape, especially when installed into LED channel with a semi clear, or transparent diffuser over the top.

IP67 COB Continuous LED Tape
Our IP67 COB Continuous LED tape has many of the same characteristics as the 8mm IP20 COB LED tape, it still provides a 90 CRI output, has a voltage requirement of 24 volts and runs typically at 10 watts per metre.
The differences are, this version has a width of 10mm due to its silicone casing, this casing results in a decrease of around 22% in the lumens per metre, bringing the output to approximately 880 per metre. This tape is perfect for environments where light water exposure may occur thanks to its IP67 rating.
