What is the difference between a Mobile Hotspot and a 4G ...

LTE Wireless Router is a NAT

In contrast, a 3G/4G/LTE Mobile Hotspot is a much smaller variant (a.k.a.

A 3G/4G/is a NAT router with module to connect to a mobile network. It usually includes a slot for a SIM card, and it can serve as an access point to multiple WiFi enabled client devices, such as laptops, PCs, tablets, smartphones, etc. It usually has LAN ports for connecting wired clients, and it can also be referred to as a 3G/4G WiFi Router . 4G variants usually have two external antenna ports for MIMO transmissions. Mobile routers are designed to remain mostly stationary at the customer premises and provide internet access via mobile networks. In contrast, a 3G/4G/LTEis a much smaller variant (a.k.a. LTE MiFi, or 4G Mobile WiFi) designed to be easily transported and to provide internet access on the go. Hotspots are portable travel routers that allow for mobile network connectivity and a very small number of clients, most of them have no LAN ports for wired client devices. Some may have a built-in battery for internet access where power is not readily available.

MIFI is super slow compared to Hotspot. Help

A very complex problem many people don't understand is that the cell radios and frequencies they support is a function of the device and not the sim. The sim card is mostly a security device it does not have radio transmitters on it.

So the messy question is can you tell if your hotspot is using the same radio band to talk to the cell tower as . This has gotten better in later years but the need for devices to have actual radio chips that support certain radio frequencies is what prevent many devices from being used on different ISP. It is not so much it is a locked device it just does not have the radio chips to support other ISP. Even within the same ISP they can use different radio bands on different towers.

So if your 2 devices are not using exactly the same radio band they might be getting different data rates.

Most phones if you dig around will show you what radio band they are using and what type of data encoding. On a hotspot device it is hard to say if this information exists and where you find it. Even if you find it I am not sure you can change stuff like this. Most devices try to use what they think is the fastest options if there are multiple bands it can use on the same tower.
