Plastic anchors are used quite often in homes built with drywall. If your home is built with drywall, you will probably want to use some type of anchor when you decide to hang objects on the walls.

There are two types of plastic anchors—a plug anchor and a wing anchor. Wing anchors have large wings on each side that help keep it in the wall.

Plug anchors are narrow tubes with traction marks along the tube to help it stay in the wall. Both of these anchors are easy to find at your local home improvement store.

Advantages

1. Plastic Anchors are Inexpensive

This is one of the greatest advantages of using plastic wall anchors. They are the cheapest anchors you can buy.

Because they are inexpensive, you don’t have to worry about damaging them. Do-it-yourselfers find this appealing.

2. Plastic Anchors Come in a Variety of Sizes

No matter the size of your screw, there is a plastic anchor that will fit it. Taking your screw with you to your local home improvement store, will ensure you get the perfect fit.

Plastic anchors are also available for purchase in kits. Therefore, if you need more than one size you can find exactly what you are looking for.

3. Plastic Anchors are Specialized

Plastic anchors can be purchased without the top rim, so you can install the anchor flush with your wall.

Plastic anchors can also be purchased with specialized fittings on the head, so you can use them with pegboard, picture hanging kits, and wire shelf anchors.

4. Plastic Anchors are Available with Wings

Toggle bolts are some of the best anchors money can buy. The toggle part of the anchor keeps it in the wall so it can support greater weight.

The plastic wing anchor is constructed in a similar manner. The wings that protrude from the side of the anchor act as a toggle and help to keep it in the wall and your hanging object off the floor.

Wing anchors are sold in a large number of sizes with various types of wings.

Disadvantages

1. Plastic Anchors Require Pre-drilled Holes

There are a number of drywall anchors on the market that do not require you to pre-drill holes. Plastic anchors do require pilot holes, however. When you use plastic anchors, you will have to have a drill or drill driver available.

With the power tool, you will drill holes into the wall at predetermined points. It is best to use a level to mark the location of the holes.

Once the holes are marked, you will drill into the drywall. Once the hole is drilled, you will insert the plastic anchor.

If you are using a wing anchor, you will have to use your fingers to press down the wings before you insert the anchor.

2. Plastic Anchors are Not the Strongest Anchors

Plastic anchors are not the strongest drywall anchors available. You can find a metal anchor that is capable of holding more weight than a plastic anchor.

There are both advantages and disadvantages to plastic anchors. However, plastic anchors are perfect for the average needs of the do-it-yourselfer.

An anchor bolt attaches objects or structures to concrete or other masonry surfaces. The Anchor Bolt has a threaded end to which a nut and washer are attached. The anchor bolt is essential to many construction projects, including dams, bridges, roads and power plants.

Many bolts are used as anchors to hold the structure together. The anchor bolts consist of the thread end, to which a nut and washer are attached for the external load. An anchor bolt is subjected to tension only, unlike other structural bolts that experience compression and tension forces. Anchor bolts are used extensively in projects, from standard buildings to dams, bridges, and roads.

Three Types Of Anchor Bolts Are Available

  1. L-type Bolts:

One of the most frequently asked questions about anchor bolts is, “what are L-type anchor bolts?” If you know that an anchor bolt is used for fastening things to concrete, but aren’t sure what kind of anchor bolt it is, then it’s probably better to call it an “anchor bolt” until you find out more. But if you want to know the difference between L-type and other types of anchor bolts, read on!

An L-type anchor bolt has a bend at one end of the anchor, which allows it to grab onto the concrete or masonry structure. The bend also means less surface area touching the concrete than other types of anchor bolts. However, that makes the load capacity of this type of anchor bolt lower than other types — so if your application will require a lot of force on the tie back to keep it in place, you may want to consider using a different type.

There is no advantage to using a different type of bolt in applications with no load on the tie-back (for example, if you are using the tie-back as attachment points for piping or cables).

2. J Type Bolts:

J-type anchor bolts are a quick and effective way to attach structures to concrete or masonry surfaces. J-type anchor bolts can attach structures to concrete or masonry surfaces. They are often used in construction, woodworking, and plumbing projects and for installing new structures or reinforcing existing ones.

Because of its design features, you can use this anchor in a wide range of materials. One of its best features is the bend at one end of the bolt. This bend grabs onto the concrete or masonry surface to stay in place instead of sliding out. In addition, this bolt comes in three lengths: 1/2 inch, 5/8 inch, and 11/16 inch. Bolts used for long-term anchors are much longer than bolts used for temporary anchors. As a result, you can use shorter nails for fixing items such as fence gates and deck railings that you want to move around frequently.

J-type anchor bolts are commonly used by plumbers when they are installing new sinks. These anchors will keep the sink from shifting around as it is being installed and ensure that it stays secure when it is complete.

3. Nut & Plate welded Anchor Bolts:

This configuration, often used to attach an anchor bolt to a concrete structure, has both advantages and disadvantages. The advantage of this configuration is its versatility. By having two threaded ends, you can install the anchor bolt in any direction and easily remove it if necessary. In addition, the anchor plate provides greater structural strength than the nut alone.

The disadvantage of this configuration is its susceptibility to movement. The steel rod is not as strong as the surrounding concrete or metal, so it can bend under stress and eventually break away from the concrete or metal without warning. In addition, if the rod breaks at a threaded end, there is no way for the owner to remove the broken end without damaging either the remaining threaded end or the concrete or metal around it. If this happens, a professional must drill out or cut off one or both of the remaining threads using expensive specialized equipment.
